Agri Insurance Eligibility

1) Eligibility for National Agricultural Insurance Scheme (NAIS) - A Novel Crop Insurance Scheme

All farmers growing insurable crops and availing Seasonal Agricultural Operations (SAO) loans from Banks / PACS are compulsorily covered under the Scheme by the Banks/ PACS, whereas the non-borrowing farmers growing insurable crops can also avail the benefit of the Scheme by submitting prescribed proposal forms at the nearest Banks/ PACS.


2) Eligibility for Bio-Fuel Tree / Plant Insurance-

This insurance scheme is applicable to Bio-fuel tree / plant growers and producers, whose produce/ yields are likely to be affected by the specified perils.

The trees / plants covered under the policy are: Jatropha curcas (Jatropha),Pongamia pinnata (Karanja), Azadirachta indica (Neem), Bassia latifolia (Mahua), Callophyllum inophyllum (Polanga) & Simarouba glauca (Paradise Tree).


3) Eligibility for Crop Insurance- Modified National Agricultural Insurance Scheme (MNAIS)

All farmers including sharecroppers, tenant farmers growing the notified crops in the notified areas are eligible for coverage.

Includes:

I. Individual owner-cultivator/ tenant farmers/ share croppers.

II. Farmers enrolled under contract farming, directly or through promoters / organizers

III. Groups of farmers / societies serviced by Fertiliser Companies, Pesticide firms, Crop Growers associations, Self Help Groups (SHGs), Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), and Others

The Scheme will extend coverage Component-wise:-

Compulsory Component- All farmers availing Seasonal Agricultural Operations (SAO) loans from Financial Institutions (i.e. loanee farmers) would be covered compulsorily.

Voluntary Component- The Scheme would be optional for all non-loanee farmers.
