Agri Insurance: Kerala National Crop Insurance Scheme.

A notification has issued by the government for the implementation of the revised National Crop Insurance scheme and the Weather-based Crop Insurance scheme from the second rabi crop season this year in Kerala.

The revised National Crop Insurance scheme insures farmers against loss due to pest attacks for tapioca and natural calamities and banana crops in all districts and punja paddy (second crop) in Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, and Kottayam districts.

The second scheme covers the second and third crop paddy in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, Wayanad, and Kasaragode, banana crops in grama panchayats equipped with weather stations, sugarcane crop in Idukki and Palalkad districts, cashew crop in Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Malappuram, and Palakkad districts and mango in Palakkad.

The Central and State governments will bear 75 percent of the premium for paddy farmers and 50 percent of the premium on other crops as part of the scheme.
